THE MIXED NUTS MARDI GRAS 2008 REVIEW!

Alright cats and kittens:

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and catch up with The Nuts over Mardi Gras 2008.

Things kicked off for us with The Krewe Of Zeus back in January. The Nuts again were back to play the 2008 Ball, and what a time it was! This is perhaps one of the best gigs we play all year. The energy and fun that comes from that group of people is amazing and we are thrilled to say that we’ll be back at Zeus in 2009!

The following week, we drove up to Tiger town and played for the Krewe de La Louisiana in Baton Rouge, LA. Another amazing gig. This is perhaps one of the largest Baton Rouge krewes with the ball being held in the River Center (a very large convention center like room). The interesting part about this gig is we have to wait to set up until the main presentations are over with. The neighborhood Stars kick things off on another stage on the other side of the room…and we have around 45 minutes to get everything on stage and ready to play. This stage is HUGE…at one point, the stage had so many people on it, I didn’t know if Matt and Ray were even still on stage. I couldn’t see them at all. We love playing for this Krewe, it’s a fantastic time. We’d like thank Krewe La Louisiana for having The Nuts back again in 2008 and we are looking forward to jamming with y’all again in 2009!

The Krewe Of Aquila was the next night back in Kenner. This was our first time performing for this classic Metairie Krewe. We were having Deja Vu as it is in the same room as the Zeus ball the week before (in the Ponchatrain Center). This ball starts off a little more traditional than the rest, so we got to do some of our oldies and such to kick off the night. Before long, everyone was up doing SOULJABOY! The Aquila Ball was a great time and we thank them for having us!

THEN COMES THE BIG DADDY! The Krewe Of Endymion’s Beans and Jeans Party in the Superdome. If you recall, this is the gig we did last year with JOURNEY and TAYLOR HICKS. This gig is really surreal, it’s like being the Rolling Stones for a day. The Nuts perform on the main Endymion Stage in the Dome on FRIDAY NIGHT (the day before the Extravagannza) for the entire Krewe of Endymion (the Krewe alone is 2,500 people….add guests to that, and you’re looking at around 3,500-4000). This year, The Nuts performed with our friends in The Bucktown Allstars and The Molly Ringwalds. The Nuts kicked off at 6:15 and by 6:45 the party was jumping. The krewe members come after work, the floats are set up, they serve red beans and rice, plus drinks, plus the band…it’s a good time!Gwen With Belinda Carslile from The Go-Gos!This year, the guest was Kevin Costner, The Doobie Brothers, and The Go-Gos. They all got on stage during the Bucktown Allstars set, so being the obnoxious fans that we are, we all got up there with them. Jamming with The Allstars and the Go-Gos and the Doobies was a great time! Gwen became the 6th Go-Go as she got up with them and sang “We Got The Beat”! We all knew she was a Go-Go from the start! This was an amazing time and we cannot thank Mr. Ed Muniz enough along with the Krewe Of Endymion for having us back! ALL HAIL ENDYMION!

So, now it’s Ash Wednesday and life goes back to normal.NOT SO FAST, MY FRIEND!The Nuts are still gearing up for APRIL 11th @ SOUTHPORT HALL and APRIL 18 @ MELLOW MUSHROOM! Get your motor running!Happy Day After Mardi Gras Day!Chuck
